Founded in 1973, the NRA Whittington Center hosts many competitive, educational and recreational activities in all shooting disciplines.

The Whittington Center is a rapidly-growing destination recreation site. Not only is it a world class shooting facility, it offers a variety of recreational activities.

Nestled in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, its natural beauty and wealth of history make the Whittington Center an exciting vacation spot. Easily accessible from I-25, the Whittington Center is located 10 miles south of Raton on Highway 64.

The Whittington Center encompasses 33,300 acres ranging from 6,300 to 8,100 feet in elevation. Breathtaking views, outstanding climate, hospitality and an array of family activities such as hiking, bird watching, wildlife viewing, and camping make the Whittington Center a place everyone can enjoy.

There is a broad range of housing to accommodate individuals, couples, and small to large groups.

The Whittington Center provides a wide variety of accommodations includng modern housing, rustic cabins, back country cabins, campgrounds with RV hookups and primitive camping. Other facilities include a cafeteria, gift shop, bathhouse, training center and a variety of world class shooting ranges.

TRAVEL INSURANCE:

Barrett strongly recommends purchasing travel insurance in case you are unable to attend the training course. Travel insurance is inexpensive and will allow you recover most of the investment you have made in the course should you be unable to attend for unavoidable reasons.

FLIGHTS:

You may fly into Denver International Airport (DEN), Colorado Springs (COS), or Albuquerque, NM (ABQ). Other regional airports may be available for private pilots. It is recommended that you compare flight costs and times to determine which airport to use. Raton is approximately 4-5 hours from Denver or Albuquerque and about 3-4 hours from Colorado Springs, CO. The larger airports (DEN and ABQ) generally have less expensive flights and better flight schedules, but are farther from Raton than Colorado Springs.

Packages sent to the Whittington Center may be picked up and associated fees paid for in the Administration Building Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The fees are as follows:

1-5 Boxes      $10.00

Shipping your rifle is not required. You may travel with your rifle if you like. Please visit TSAs website for instructions on how to travel by air with firearms. Also check with your airline about checking firearms in your luggage.

LODGING:

Lodging is provided (night before class through the morning of the last day) and when available we stay in cabins on the ARENA Training Facility property.  Students who wish to stay in a hotel are advised to stay in the Days Inn in Blakely. This hotel is about 15 minutes from the range.  Barrett is not affiliated with Days Inn Blakely and receives nothing in return if you choose to stay there.
